TalkPCR and Icom PCR-1000

Hi,

For anyone who is trying and failing to use TalkPcr with the PCR-
1000, here's a tip. Try a different serial lead.

The one that came with my PCR-1000 works fine with the ICOM software
yet fails every time when I try to use TalkPCR.

A continuity test revealed no problems so I'm at a loss as to why the
ICOM lead doesn't work.

The only downside of using a cheap serial cable is that you will pick
up RFI from the PC. The sure is to fit snap-on ferrite chokes at
each end of the cable.

Be sure to use a proper screened serial cable, or better still, make
up one yourself.

I have to say that I rate TalkPcr as the best thing since sliced
bread.

I have been caught with a similar problem using the lead that comes with
a UPS for a PC, I bought a regular serial lead and it worked OK.

I presumed that some of the leads do not have all the pins connected ,
if you have problems try another lead, also have been using TalkPCR for
some while and it is excellent.

Cheers

I have used TalkPCR for 4-5 years now! I have always thanked Pete for making it available.
In fact - today - after 4-5 years my PCR1000 quit behaving normally. I remembered the
EEPROM read I did long ago - and in TalkPcr - I did a restore on the EEPROM and the radio
is top notch again! I just joined this group - and am now 99% a Mac user - but keep one
PC running just for TalkPcr and the PCR1000. I have never been able to find a Mac OSX
program to control the radio. So excuse me it this is an often asked question - but I
would appreciate if anyone could let me know if one exists.

I use TalkPCR on my eMac. I installed "Mac VirtualPC" on the eMac,
which enables me to run Windows software, etc. That way I only need
one computer. Check with your local store that carries Mac software.
Yes, it is a work-a-round, but it works for me...

John!

Thanks! I ordered Virtual PC back in March - but
I am running the Dual 2Gig G5 - and Version 6 VPC
did not run on the G5 :( Anyhow - yesterday - I finally
received VPC7 - seems to run great (about 3 times
faster than Windows XP Pro on my 900 Mhz Pentium box!)

TalkPCR runs fine - in demo mode - I will bring
the radio over tomorrow! I have to find the USB/Serial
adapter cable I bought last March!?

Thanks again!
